We are currently looking for self-driven, enthusiastic and highly motivated person for the position of:

 

Operations Director – AMEA

 (Location: GBS Belgrade)

 

The primary purpose of the role is to provide leadership and direction for the operational activities in AMEA region and to lead the Team and be directly accountable for the operational management of multiple plants. The role is accountable for the regional operational targets and budgets, for cost reduction, efficiency and quality improvements and EHS KPI’s. It is responsible to develop objectives, policies and programs for the region and ensure appropriate focus on the balanced scorecard. The role will be directly responsible to manage capital budget for the region and allocate spending in accordance with the regional strategy and targets. High colaboration and maintainance of the close working relationship with colleagues across the business as well as the ability to engage, manage and share resource whilst establishing an independent platform is a key for the success.

Responsibilities:

Key activities/responsibilities:  

  • Reporting to the Regional VP Operations this role covers all aspects of operations management for AMEA region
  • Leads the plant management team and implements the bigger strategic picture through motivation, direction and sharing of information to develop understanding in the plant management team.
  • Achieves the regional targets for quality improvements and EHS KPI's.
  • Using the latest Lean and Six Sigma manufacturing techniques, creates an empowered culture to achieve continuous improvement and cost reduction.
  • Leads operations within budgetary commitments. Reviews and approves budgets throughout the region and is responsible and accountable for ensuring Plant Managers manage plant cost as appropriate for low margin manufacturing.
  • Interfaces with other functional areas, in a matrix environment, to ensure complete integration of operational activities within the overall business operating goals and parameters.
  • Leads operations by guiding and directing activities consistent with established strategy, goals, objectives and policies.
  • Actively contributes to and exploits best practice globally and works closely with the regional Team
  • Ensures a continuous growing competitive advantage through execution capabilities and cost leadership.
  • Determine the manufacturing footprint against sales forecast, to play an active part in the capital investment in plants and to drive investment through to fruition and to share best practice on key areas (such as Health and Safety, electricity usage) and implement where applicable. 
  • Plans, continuously optimises and reports on resource investments.
  • Builds and manages a high performance team with focus on operational excellence and a constructive and positive mind set. Provides leadership in continuous improvement activities to enable scalability to achieve goals.
  • Recruits, retains and continuously develops the best operations team in the local market to contribute to the overall talent pool for Ball.
  • Develops subordinates skills and abilities through leadership and development and structured performance management and personal development planning, to contribute to the overall succession plan for Ball.
  • Establishes team behavior of integrity, capability & results.
  • Use Quality Management tools and techniques to implement, monitor, analyse and influence performance towards contract and budgetary requirements with Plant Managers
  • Conduct regular planned and documented meetings with relevant Plant Managers to discuss performance issues, strategies and general issues related to the individual site and volumes
  • Complies with all internal and external execution, financial, legal, information protection and business conduct rules & guidelines.
  • To communicate and take responsibility for achievement of Key Performance Indicators as laid out in the balanced scorecard.
  • To continue to promote externally the positive contribution that Ball makes to sustainability.
  • Role models the Leadership Practices (behaviours) and core values expected of Regional Leaders within Ball.  
Qualifications:

Capability requirements for the role:

  • Experience and educational requirements
  • Degree educated in Technical or Business Studies discipline or equivalent together with Masters in Manufacturing Science or MBA (preferred)
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in the high speed manufacturing environment. Experience of multi-site management, ideally across cultures.
  • A manufacturing background in a high speed, high volume continuous process
  • Successful track record in man management
  • Experience in handling industrial and employee relations issues
  • Good understanding of modern lean manufacture technique - SMED, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Structured Problem Solving, TPM/OEE
  • Proven record of achievement

The role will be based in Belgrade, Serbia with up to 40% travel time mainly in the AMEA region.
